A Whole House Surrounded
by Nature and Culture
Entire House Rental

This is a traditional Japanese house in the countryside (satoyama) of Hanamaki, Iwate.
The Segawa River flows right in front of it: fresh green in spring, the sound of the stream in summer, autumn leaves, and snow in winter.

We opened this house hoping that
“children can have experiences that truly matter”
and “parents and children can enjoy Hanamaki together.”
Relax and do nothing,
or bring along a little homework and think it through as a family.
We are close by, looking after your family’s time here.

Family time to remember,
in the rich nature of Iwate.

The owner is a former elementary school teacher.
Using the world of Kenji Miyazawa and the nature and culture of Hanamaki as teaching materials, we plan workshops that grow the way parents and children feel and think. What you learn on the trip becomes “Shin-san’s Homework”, a keepsake of your family’s memories.
Dogs are family too

Stay to Learn, Stay for Stories

Travel with your children and grow their learning along the way.
This is the new kind of journey Shin no Yado proposes.

The owner, Shin, is a former elementary school teacher.
He created this place for “learning that schools cannot offer, in a place that is neither school nor home.”
Set in Iwate, which Kenji Miyazawa called “Ihatov,”
through nature, literature and encounters with people,
these trips help children grow their power to think and to feel.

Time away from everyday life, with parents and children fully absorbed together.
Not just sightseeing, but a family trip in the style of a school study trip.
Take it slowly over 3 days and 2 nights, at an ease one night cannot give.

The house displays “Shin-san’s Homework,” the work of families who have stayed here.
A small portfolio of learning, where families encourage one another.
Travel × Education × Family time.
An experience you can only have here, for parents who care about their children’s future.

N., IwateThis was our first stay, and it was so much fun to find Kenji’s works all around the house. There are picture books, novels and manga, so everyone can enjoy reading.
The upstairs room drew us into the world of his stories more than anywhere. It was the best! We will definitely come back!

T., IwateWe used the house for our office year-end party.
Having the whole house to ourselves, we could relax and get really lively with a quiz and a name-that-tune game without worrying about anyone else.
The catering from Marukan Shokudo was generous too, which made us happy. We would love to come again.

M., NaganoThank you for having us. There were books and poems by Kenji Miyazawa everywhere; it was a lovely space. I usually reach for my phone, but here I found myself reaching for a book.
